ロマンティックな詩ではなく、どちらかというと、エネルギーのある感じです。「立ち上がる」という言葉が繰り返されてリズムができていました。依頼人は珍しくメールでなくて電話をかけてきて、古くさくなく、力強い感じで、と意図を時間をかけて説明して下さいました。
もっとウェイトが重くても良かったのですが、彼女へのプレゼントだし、あまり仰々しくても、と思ったのと、叫びまくっている、というより、静かにでも強く決意を秘めて、という思いも詩から感じられましたので、このくらいのウエイトにしました。
黒で、という希望でしたが、I rise がポイントになっていて、そこを強調してみようと思い、字体を合わせたキャピタルにして、色をテラコッタ的なグラデーションにしました。大体の形を決めてから、PDF を作ってメールで送り、依頼主の承諾を得て、書き始めました。
とても気に入って下さって、また何か頼むかも、と至極好意的なフィードバックを頂いて、ありがたいことでした。ちょっと値切られちゃったんですけどね。
He phoned me up one day to ask me to make a piece for Christmas present to his girlfriend. Text was quite energetic, with repetition of word ‘I rise’. He explained how he wanted to make it, that saved us to emailing back and forwards.
I decided to scripts light but rhythmic, not shout out but strong. He wants text in black but I made ‘I rise’ bits in terracotta coloured as I felt something rising from the solid healthy ground.
I made PDF to show him and after we agreed the layout and colours, started to write.
He loved a piece very much, with one spelling mistake (!) . I'm so glad with the result. Hope his girlfriend would like it, too. Happy Christmas :)
